Estimated body fat

–

How to measure: use a soft tape, snug but not squeezing. Measure the neck just below the Adam’s apple, the waist at the navel for men or at the narrowest point for women, and the hips at their widest. The US Navy formula is usually within about 3–4 percentage points of a DEXA scan. Categories follow the American Council on Exercise ranges.

About the Body Fat Calculator

The Body Fat Calculator estimates your body fat percentage with the US Navy tape-measure method, using height, neck and waist measurements — plus hips for women — in centimetres or inches. It shows your category from essential fat to obese on a colour scale and, if you add your weight, splits it into fat mass and lean mass.

How to use the Body Fat Calculator

  1. Choose your sex and units.
  2. Enter your height and neck measurement.
  3. Measure your waist, and your hips if you are a woman.
  4. Read your body fat percentage and category, and add your weight to see fat and lean mass.
