What do I need on the final?

How it works: your current grade is the weighted average of what’s been graded so far — each score times its weight, divided by the total weight. For the final, the score you need is (target − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. If weights don’t add up to 100% yet, that’s fine: the current grade only uses what you’ve entered.

About the Grade Calculator

The Grade Calculator works out your current weighted course grade from assignment and exam scores and their weights, with the letter grade. Then it answers the big question — what score you need on the final exam to finish with the grade you want — and tells you if that target is still within reach.

How to use the Grade Calculator

  1. Add each assignment or category with its score and weight.
  2. Read your current weighted grade.
  3. Enter the final exam’s weight and the overall grade you want.
  4. See the score you need on the final.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a weighted grade?

Multiply each score by its weight, add them up and divide by the total weight. 90% on work worth 20% and 80% on work worth 30% gives (18 + 24) ÷ 50 = 84%.

How do I work out what I need on my final?

Required score = (target grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. The calculator does it for you.

What if my weights don’t add up to 100%?

That is fine during the term — your current grade is based only on the work graded so far.
