Binary / Hex / Decimal Converter

Type a number in any base and see it in binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal at once — plus text to binary and back.

Number bases

Type in any box — the others update. Works with whole numbers of any size, including negatives.

Text ↔ binary / hex

Arbitrary precision: conversions use JavaScript’s BigInt, so very long numbers convert exactly — no rounding. Prefixes like 0x, 0b and 0o, spaces and underscores are ignored.

About the Binary / Hex / Decimal Converter

The Binary / Hex / Decimal Converter translates numbers between base 2 (binary), base 8 (octal), base 10 (decimal) and base 16 (hexadecimal) the moment you type, and it handles very large numbers without losing precision. It can also turn text into binary and back. Programmers, students learning number systems and anyone reading colour codes, memory addresses or bit flags will find it quicker than doing the maths by hand.

How to use the Binary / Hex / Decimal Converter

  1. Type a number into any of the fields — decimal, hexadecimal, binary or octal.
  2. See the same value in every other base instantly, including negative numbers.
  3. Use the “Other base” field for any base from 2 to 36.
  4. Type words in the Text section to see them as binary and hex bytes, or paste binary to turn it back into text.

Frequently asked questions

How do you convert binary to decimal?

Multiply each binary digit by 2 raised to the power of its position, counting from 0 on the right, and add the results. For example, 1011 is 8 + 0 + 2 + 1 = 11. This converter does it instantly for numbers of any length.

Why do programmers use hexadecimal?

One hex digit represents exactly four binary digits, so hex is a compact, readable way to write binary data such as colours (#FF8800), memory addresses and byte values.

What is the largest number I can convert?

The converter uses arbitrary-precision integers, so it keeps every digit exact even for numbers far larger than a normal calculator can hold.
