AI Crawler Checker
See which AI crawlers a robots.txt allows or blocks — GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and more.

Training vs. answering: some bots collect data to train models (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, CCBot, Google-Extended), while others fetch pages live to answer a user’s question and usually link back (OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, Claude-User, PerplexityBot). Many sites block training bots but allow search bots to keep appearing in AI answers. robots.txt is a request, not an enforcement — well-behaved crawlers follow it.
Why fetching sometimes fails: browsers only let a page read another site’s file if that site allows it. When it doesn’t, open yoursite.com/robots.txt in a new tab and paste the contents above.
About the AI Crawler Checker
The AI Crawler Checker reads a site’s robots.txt and shows which AI crawlers — GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, CCBot and others — are allowed or blocked, and for which paths. Check your own site before deciding whether AI tools may use your content, or see how competitors handle AI bots.
How to use the AI Crawler Checker
- Enter a website to fetch its robots.txt, or paste robots.txt contents yourself.
- Enter a path to check, such as / or /blog/.
- Read whether each AI crawler may access that path.
- Use the Robots.txt Generator to change the rules if needed.
Frequently asked questions
What is GPTBot?
GPTBot is OpenAI’s web crawler, used to collect content that may be used to train its models. Site owners can allow or block it in robots.txt.
Does blocking AI crawlers affect Google rankings?
No. Blocking bots such as GPTBot or Google-Extended doesn’t affect Googlebot, which crawls for Google Search.
Do all AI crawlers respect robots.txt?
The major ones say they do, but robots.txt is a voluntary standard, so it can’t technically force a crawler to stay away.
