Image to Text (OCR)
Turn a screenshot, photo or scan into text you can copy and edit, in 16 languages — read on your device, nothing uploaded.
For the best results use a sharp, well-lit image where the text is level and not too small — screenshots work almost perfectly. Pick the right language before reading, since the reader uses it to recognise letters and accents. Handwriting and very stylised fonts are much harder to read than printed text, so check the result before you use it. The first run downloads the text reader (about 2–5 MB) once.
About the Image to Text (OCR)
Image to Text extracts the words from screenshots, photos, scanned pages and memes so you can copy, edit and search them. It uses Tesseract OCR running inside your browser and supports 16 languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Read several images in one go, join broken lines into paragraphs, then copy the text or download it as a .txt file. Nothing is uploaded, which makes it safe for private documents.

Frequently asked questions
How do I copy text from an image?
Upload or paste the image here and the text is extracted automatically. Correct anything that was misread in the box, then press Copy text.
How accurate is the OCR?
Clear screenshots and printed documents are usually read almost perfectly. Blurry photos, tilted pages, tiny text, decorative fonts and handwriting are less reliable, so check the result.
Which languages are supported?
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Turkish, Polish, Russian, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The text is read in your browser, so screenshots of private messages or documents stay on your device.
Can it read handwriting?
Neat, printed-style handwriting sometimes works, but the reader is designed for typed text, so expect mistakes with joined-up writing.
