Break-even ROAS

ROAS vs ROI: ROAS = revenue ÷ ad spend, so 3.75× means $3.75 back for every $1 spent on ads. ROI = (revenue − all costs) ÷ all costs, which tells you whether the campaign actually made money after product and other costs. Break-even ROAS is the minimum ROAS you need to not lose money, given your margins.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between ROAS and ROI?

ROAS is revenue divided by ad spend and only looks at advertising. ROI includes all costs — products, fees and ad spend — and shows the true profit on your investment.

What is a good ROAS?

It depends on your margins. A common benchmark is 4:1, but a business with thin margins may need more just to break even, which is why the break-even ROAS matters.

How is break-even ROAS calculated?

It is the ROAS at which profit is zero after costs — roughly 1 divided by your profit margin before ad spend.
