UUID Generator

Generates random (version 4) UUIDs.

Why it's useful: UUIDs are used as unique identifiers for database rows, API keys, and distributed systems where two different machines need to generate IDs without colliding. Version 4 UUIDs are randomly generated, not derived from any identifying information.

About the UUID Generator

The UUID Generator creates random version-4 UUIDs (universally unique identifiers), one at a time or in bulk. UUIDs are used as database keys, request IDs, file names and anywhere you need an identifier that won’t clash with others. They are generated with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator.

How to use the UUID Generator

  1. Choose how many UUIDs you need.
  2. Click Generate.
  3. Copy all of them at once.

Frequently asked questions

What is a UUID v4?

A version-4 UUID is a 128-bit identifier made almost entirely of random bits, written as 32 hexadecimal digits in five groups, like 3f2b8c1e-9a4d-4c7e-b1f0-…

Can two UUIDs ever be the same?

In theory yes, but the chance is astronomically small — you would need to generate billions per second for many years before a collision became likely.

Is UUID the same as GUID?

Yes. GUID is Microsoft’s name for the same standard identifier.
