Rates change and vary by country: the presets are typical published US/EU rates as a starting point — edit the percentage and fixed fee to match your account, currency conversion or volume pricing. To pass fees on to a customer, the tool solves charge = (amount + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − percentage), so you receive the exact amount.

About the Payment Fee Calculator

The Payment Fee Calculator shows the fee and net payout for PayPal, Stripe and Square payments, using editable preset rates or your own custom rate. It also works backwards, telling you what to charge to receive an exact amount after fees — useful for invoices, freelance work, online sales and passing fees on to customers.

How to use the Payment Fee Calculator

  1. Choose a payment provider and rate, or enter a custom percentage and fixed fee.
  2. Enter the amount.
  3. Read the fee and what you receive.
  4. Choose “Know what to charge to receive this” to find the amount that leaves you with an exact payout.

Frequently asked questions

How are PayPal and Stripe fees calculated?

Most processors charge a percentage of the payment plus a fixed fee per transaction, such as 2.9% + 0.30. International cards and currency conversion usually cost more.

How do I pass the fee on to my customer?

Charge (amount + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − percentage). The calculator does this for you, so you receive exactly what you wanted.

Are the fee rates always current?

The presets use common published rates, but providers change them and offer different rates by country and volume, so check your own account and edit the rate if needed.
